An umbrella company acts as employer for agency contractors who take on project work and temporary assignments – usually through recruitment agencies. The umbrella company, as the contractor’s employer for tax purposes, will receive the workers wages from the agency and handle the relevant tax and deductions that are required according to tax law. The umbrella company will then pay the worker’s net wages to their personal account.
